Diet
Rats are omnivores but don't do well on high protein diets. They have various nutritional needs throughout their life and especially if they have a unique coat or are raising litters.

We really like Teklad block but Oxbow Adult Rat is easier to obtain and our rattery has done well on it before. We also like Mazuri 6F. There is a lot of info on the various foods, protein levels, etc on the RatGuide website as well.

We feed our Harleys a lower protein diet of Science Selective and it really helps with their skin and coat.

Our Harleys also get Lafeber Rat Nutri-Berries as a treat because they are low protein as well.

Rats also need fresh fruits and vegetables but be careful not to give toxic ones. Hereis some info from Animallama on what to feed and what not to feed. Also, limit watery ones to just a little bit so they don't get diarrhea.

There is lots of great info on what is toxic to rats on the PetHelpful website as well!
